CJ Olney and Frankie Westfield have been recognized for their performances in the MLS NEXT Pro league, earning spots on the Best XI team. This achievement marks a first for Philadelphia Union II players in receiving such honors.
The 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Best XI acknowledges standout players at each position, with Olney and Westfield playing key roles in setting club records for points, wins, and overall standings. Their contributions helped Union II secure its first home playoff match.
Frankie Westfield, serving as Vice-Captain and defender for Union II, participated in all 26 games of the season. He led his teammates with 2,313 minutes on the field. Westfield achieved personal bests this season with six goals and six assists, ranking second on the team in both categories. His goal tally set a new record for defenders in club history. Recently, he joined the U.S. Under-20 Men’s Youth National Team for a training camp in Chile.
Seventeen-year-old CJ Olney played 22 games this season, starting 20 of them. He scored six goals and provided eight assists. His performance placed him at the top among Union II players for assists and tied him third league-wide. Olney made his MLS debut against Charlotte FC on June 22nd and became a Homegrown player later that year.
Union II is set to compete against New York City FC II in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals at Subaru Park on October 20th.
