Dave Dombrowski, the President of Baseball Operations for the Philadelphia Phillies, addressed various offseason considerations following the team's exit from the NL Division Series against the Mets. Despite winning 95 games and securing their first NL East title since 2011, expectations were high for a World Series win which did not materialize.

Dombrowski emphasized that there is no "missing piece" to fix. "The answer is playing well at the right time," he stated. He acknowledged his and manager Rob Thomson's responsibilities but noted that sometimes teams simply don't perform as expected.

The Phillies are looking to bolster their lineup with another bat, enhance starting pitching depth, and potentially add relievers if they fail to re-sign Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez. While Dombrowski mentioned the possibility of signing one of them, he indicated that both might not return.

He expressed confidence in the current roster's potential to win a World Series, drawing parallels with his past experience with the Red Sox. "I do think it’s a club capable of winning a world championship," Dombrowski said.

Financially, the Phillies have crossed significant luxury tax thresholds and are likely to do so again in 2025. However, they are cautious about crossing higher thresholds due to severe penalties. Despite speculation linking Juan Soto to Philadelphia, Dombrowski downplayed the need for additional star players. "We have as many stars as about anybody in baseball," he remarked.

Internally, improvements will focus on reducing chase rates and utilizing more of the field offensively—a goal from last season that remains unmet. Trea Turner will continue as shortstop despite outside speculation about his position.

The infield appears set with Bryce Harper, Bryson Stott, Alec Bohm, Turner, and catcher J.T. Realmuto slated for next season. Outfield changes could occur with Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh expected to play key roles while Austin Hays and Johan Rojas' positions remain uncertain.

Regarding starting pitching depth, struggles were noted at the No. 5 starter position which contributed to mid-season challenges after an initial strong performance. The team attempted but failed to acquire Garrett Crochet from the White Sox due to cost concerns.

As preparations begin for Spring Training, Taijuan Walker will compete for a spot alongside Andrew Painter among others. Additional starters may be brought in for insurance purposes.
