The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies share a rivalry marked by memorable games and intense competition. Their history, rich with notable performances, will reach a new chapter as they meet in the postseason for the first time. Following their NL Wild Card Series victory over the Brewers, the Mets will face off against the Phillies in the Division Series.

One significant game occurred on June 9, 2024, during MLB's London Series. The Mets secured a narrow 6-5 win against the Phillies through a rare game-ending double play initiated by catcher Luis Torrens.

Another notable encounter was on August 16, 2018, when the Mets achieved their highest-scoring game in franchise history with a 24-4 victory over the Phillies. This game featured an explosive fifth inning where the Mets scored ten runs.

A crucial moment in this rivalry took place on September 14, 2007. The Phillies defeated the Mets 3-2 in extra innings, initiating one of baseball's most dramatic collapses. This loss contributed to the Mets losing their seven-game lead in the NL East to the Phillies.

On October 6, 1991, pitcher David Cone tied a franchise record by striking out 19 batters during a shutout victory over Philadelphia.

In late September of 1987, two games played by these teams saw Philadelphia playing spoiler to New York's playoff hopes. The Phillies' victories effectively eliminated any chance for a repeat World Series appearance for New York that year.

On June 11, 1985, Philadelphia recorded its highest-scoring game against New York with a dominant 26-7 win.

An unusual match occurred on October 2, 1965. After playing an exhausting doubleheader resulting in an official tie due to curfew restrictions after eighteen innings of scoreless play between Rob Gardner and Chris Short.

June 21,1964 saw Jim Bunning of Philadelphia pitch a perfect game against New York at Shea Stadium—the first National League perfect game since Cy Young’s era—highlighting another key event within this storied rivalry.

As fans prepare for another thrilling series between these teams come Saturday’s kickoff into playoffs’ next stage; memories from past battles remind everyone why each contest matters so much historically speaking across generations alike both locally regionally nationally internationally worldwide too!
