MLB Pipeline highlights standout tools of top prospects

When MLB Pipeline unveiled its preseason Top 100 list in January, it also highlighted the best individual tools among baseball's top prospects. Several players have since demonstrated their skills in the Major Leagues.

Paul Skenes, recognized for his fastball and slider, has excelled with his mid-90s splinker, upper-90s four-seamer, and mid-80s slider. His 98.8 mph average on his four-seamer ties José Soriano for the highest among starters in the Majors.

Masyn Winn ranks second among big league infielders by averaging 93.2 mph on the top 5 percent of his throws and has recorded a throw at 101.2 mph this year. Pete Crow-Armstrong is tied for 13th among center fielders with seven Outs Above Average despite making just 65 starts at the position.

The updated Top 100 list showcases talents that will soon be seen in Major League ballparks. The tools are rated on a standard 20-80 scouting scale, where 50 represents big league average.

**Best hitter: Jackson Holliday, Orioles (70)**

Jackson Holliday stands out with his advanced ability at the plate. At just 20 years old, he has slashed .270/.313/.556 since returning to the Majors in late July after initially struggling. He is a career .304/.442/.486 hitter in the Minors.

**Best power: Junior Caminero, Rays (70)**

Junior Caminero's bat speed and strength produce high exit velocities. Despite a recurring quad injury, he has hit 13 home runs in Triple-A Durham this year.

**Fastest runner: Justin Crawford, Phillies (75)**

Justin Crawford inherited speed from his father Carl Crawford and has shown it with sub-6.2-second 60-yard dash times and a career .312 average over two-plus pro seasons.

Also considered: Max Clark (Tigers), Druw Jones (Diamondbacks), Jordan Lawlar (Diamondbacks).

**Best arm: Carson Williams, Rays (70)**

Carson Williams' plus-plus arm complements his complete defensive package as a shortstop for the Rays.

Also considered: Coby Mayo (Orioles), Blake Mitchell (Royals), Braden Montgomery (Red Sox).

**Best defender: Druw Jones, Diamondbacks (70)**

Druw Jones follows in his father Andruw Jones' footsteps with excellent defensive skills and range as an outfielder.

Also considered: Starlyn Caba (Phillies), Jeferson Quero (Brewers), Carson Williams (Rays).

**Best fastball: Jacob Misiorowski, Brewers (70)**

Jacob Misiorowski's fastball stands out due to its velocity and shape, sitting at 96-98 mph and topping out at 102 mph.

**Best curveball: Hayden Birdsong, Giants(60)**

Hayden Birdsong's curveball combines power with downer shape coming from a high arm slot.
