Much of the talk leading up to Tuesday’s Trade Deadline centered on whether two ace AL Central left-handers, Tarik Skubal of the Tigers and Garrett Crochet of the White Sox, would be traded. Ultimately, both remained with their respective teams.
Both pitchers also retained their spots in the latest edition of the Starting Pitcher Power Rankings. Meanwhile, three new pitchers entered the top 10—one following a no-hitter and two others on notable hot streaks.
Here are the latest Starting Pitcher Power Rankings, voted on by an MLB.com panel. The rankings consider career track records, 2024 success, and recent performance. All statistics are through Tuesday’s games unless otherwise noted.
1. Paul Skenes, Pirates (Last poll: 1)
Skenes has made only 13 Major League starts but is already making a significant impact. He leads in several categories for pitchers with at least 80 innings pitched: ERA (1.90), WHIP (0.90), and strikeout rate (33.3%). He ranks fourth in FIP (2.64).
2. Tarik Skubal, Tigers (2)

Sale has allowed no more than two runs in 17 out of his 20 starts this season, including his last nine consecutive outings.

Burnes remains consistent with at least six innings pitched in 19 out of his 22 starts this season and leads the Majors with 18 quality starts.
6. Zack Wheeler, Phillies (7)
Wheeler had a tough outing against the Yankees but still holds an ERA under 3.00 for the season.
7. George Kirby, Mariners (not ranked)
Kirby continues to excel early in his career as an efficient strike thrower and currently leads MLB in walk rate alongside Zach Eflin.
8. Garrett Crochet, White Sox (5)
Post-Deadline speculation surrounds how much Crochet will be pushed for the rest of the season after throwing only 13 innings across four starts in July.
