Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) on April 25 revealed that 10 airports will receive a combined $10 million in state funding through the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program.

The purpose of the funds is to help the airports complete 10 projects, according to a press release from the governor's office. Pennsylvania has 121 public-use aviation facilities, including airports, heliports, and seaplane bases.

The funds will expand operational and economic aviation opportunities for Pennsylvanians, the press release said.

“Aviation plays a vital role in keeping our state’s economy moving,” Wolf said in the press release. “These investments will help Pennsylvania’s airports operate safely, expand to meet current demands, and sustain growth well into the future.”

The press release said that the Philadelphia International Airport in Philadelphia County will receive $500,000 to rehabilitate baggage tunnels and to provide safer, timely, and streamlined baggage operations.
