On Monday evening, a special event took place in South Philadelphia during the Phillies' home opener. Saquon Barkley and Brandon Graham took the ceremonial first pitch while showcasing the Lombardi Trophy in front of nearly 45,000 fans.
At the same time, Head Coach Nick Sirianni was in Palm Beach, Florida, attending the NFL Annual Meeting. Despite the celebratory mood, Sirianni reminded everyone it's time to move forward. "The celebration is over. The celebration of the Super Bowl is over. Our preparation is here," he stated at the NFC Coaches Breakfast. "There's nothing like getting back in there and starting to work again."
Sirianni reflected on the past season's success, crediting team chemistry and stressing the importance of regaining that unity for future achievements. "How do you recapture that? That will be the goal," he said. "You have to recapture that each and every year, just like you have to recapture the things on the field and keep schemes fresh and add to it. It's the same thing with your culture. It takes daily work and daily preparation."
Drawing from his own experience at Mount Union where he was part of three consecutive National Championship-winning teams, Sirianni emphasized the importance of hard work. "With our team, if you're not busting your butt and giving everything you've got, you'll be exposed," he remarked.
Although most of last season's core remains, the retirement of Brandon Graham and others leaving in free agency signal changes. Sirianni anticipates that competition for playing time will enhance performance among the players. "I know I'll see hunger and desire and just this, 'Hey, now it's my turn to go out there and perform.'"
The coaching staff also sees change, with Kevin Patullo stepping in as Offensive Coordinator. Sirianni praised Patullo's readiness for the role. "Now, it's Kevin's show and when I talk about hunger, I see it every single day in Kevin Patullo," Sirianni added. "He's so hungry and ready for this job. I've been so impressed by how he's handled it so far."
