Rep. Martina White from Philadelphia has issued a response to comments made by District Attorney Larry Krasner. White criticized Krasner for his remarks during a Q&A with City & State on March 25, where he stated that political opponents should be “punched in the face.”
White condemned Krasner's comments as “reprehensible and dangerous,” expressing concern over the use of violent rhetoric by an official whose duty is to enforce the law. She emphasized the importance of maintaining non-violent public discourse and noted the risks associated with such language, particularly given the instances of politically motivated violence seen nationwide.
Furthermore, White argued that leaders should focus on reducing tensions rather than exacerbating them. She stated, “It is deeply troubling that the city’s top law enforcement official would resort to language that encourages physical violence against people he disagrees with politically. This is not just inappropriate, it is reckless.”
White concluded by asserting that the citizens of Philadelphia need a district attorney who prioritizes the prosecution of violent criminals rather than making extreme political statements. She remarked, “The people of Philadelphia deserve a district attorney focused on prosecuting violent criminals, not one who spends his time making extreme political statements and stoking division. Mr. Krasner’s words do not reflect the values of this city or the responsibilities of his office.”
