Zack Baun has signed a new contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, ensuring his stay with the team through the 2027 season. This decision comes as no surprise, as both Baun and the Eagles expressed a mutual desire to continue their partnership.
"I really actually didn't want to leave," Baun stated during a teleconference with Philadelphia reporters. He emphasized the strong culture within the team and how it felt right for him and his family. "Really didn't want to leave and appreciated everything we built."
Baun's journey with the Eagles began after he became a free agent following four seasons with New Orleans. The Eagles saw potential in him despite his lack of widespread recognition at that time. Signing a one-year deal, Baun quickly became an integral part of Philadelphia's top-ranked defense, contributing significantly to their second Lombardi Trophy win. His performance earned him All-Pro honors, a spot as a finalist for the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award, and selection to the Pro Bowl team.
Reflecting on his first year with the Eagles, Baun said, "I think about what we did in one year with so many new pieces, coaches and players included... I'm excited about this team and this defense moving forward." He looks forward to playing a more vocal role in a defense that will see some changes but retains much of its core under Vic Fangio's system.
Despite his achievements in 2024, Baun remains focused on improvement. "I look at my highlights sometimes... I'm a perfectionist in that way," he admitted. As he continues to build confidence within Fangio's scheme, Baun is eager to capitalize on last year's success.
