Coaches often encounter players at various skill levels in youth soccer, with some ready for advanced challenges and others needing more development. Recognizing this, Tyler Fenstermacher, Director of the Player Development Program (PDP), initiated structured training programs to cater to all player levels. This initiative led to the creation of the Philadelphia Union's PDP.
The program now offers personalized training options, including 1-on-1 Training, Small Group Training with a 6:1 player-to-coach ratio, and Team Training. These are designed to improve player skills and performance. The PDP provides flexibility for parents through session packages available in blocks of 1, 5, or 10 sessions. All sessions occur at the WSFS Bank SportsPlex.
"Personalized training is a powerful tool for accelerating a young player’s development," said Tyler Fenstermacher. "As a coach, my goal is to enhance skills, deepen tactical understanding, and elevate overall performance."
The PDP's 1-on-1 Training focuses on individual needs such as passing, shooting, decision-making, and ball mastery. The Small Group Training emphasizes technical skills in a game-like environment with competitive scenarios and peer learning. Team Training aims to improve team dynamics by focusing on cohesion and tactical development.
"PDP has been getting high marks from parents too," Fenstermacher noted. "I wanted to create an accessible program for everyone by lowering entry barriers."
The Philadelphia Union remains committed to developing young soccer athletes across the region.
