Philadelphia Union II secured a victory in a penalty shootout against New York Red Bulls II during their home opener, earning an additional point. Cavan Sullivan's free kick goal gave Union II an early lead, but the team had to demonstrate resilience after conceding a stoppage-time equalizer. Goalkeeper Andrew Rick was pivotal in the shootout, allowing only one goal from four attempts. Stas Korzniowski, David Vazquez, and Leandro Soria scored in the shootout to secure two points for Union II.

Union II will face Huntsville City SC on March 28th at 8 PM ET, with coverage available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Head Coach Ryan Richter made several changes to the starting lineup for the match. Zachary Mastrodimos made his first start in midfield, while Isaiah LeFlore and Gavin Wetzel started on defense. Nick Pariano played right back, and Ramzi Qawasmy debuted for Union II. The attack featured Stas Korzeniowski and Sal Olivas.

The match began with Sullivan scoring from a free kick in the 20th minute after CJ Olney was fouled during a counterattack. In the second half, Union II's defense held firm as Red Bulls pushed for an equalizer. A significant defensive play by Pariano prevented a potential goal by Ibrahim Kasule.

Union II nearly doubled their lead at the hour mark when Olney's shot forced a save from Aidan Stokes. However, Red Bulls gained momentum after Wetzel was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity late in the game.

In stoppage time, Tanner Rosborough scored for Red Bulls to level the match following an assist from Aiden Jarvis.
