Kimberly Khabeer, a sonographer at Temple University Hospital, provided insights to the Bump regarding what individuals can anticipate during a 7-week ultrasound appointment.

"At this stage of pregnancy, an ultrasound is primarily used to confirm the pregnancy and establish an estimated due date," Khabeer explained. "It's also an opportunity to check for multiple pregnancies and assess the baby's heartbeat."

Khabeer emphasized that while many parents are eager to see detailed images of their baby, the primary focus at this early stage is on confirming key aspects of the pregnancy.

"It's important for expectant parents to understand that ultrasounds at seven weeks won't show much detail," she noted. "The embryo is still very small, and the most crucial information we gather relates to viability and gestational age."
