Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A. Walker recently visited Temple Women & Families to discuss investments in the state's 2025-26 budget proposal. The focus of the visit was on addressing Pennsylvania's nursing shortage and enhancing the healthcare workforce.

Governor Shapiro's budget proposal includes a $5 million investment to establish the Nurse Shortage Assistance Program. This program aims to provide funding for health systems like Temple that collaborate with nursing schools. The initiative will cover tuition costs for students who agree to work for three years at sponsoring hospitals in Pennsylvania after graduation.

During the event, Michael A. Young, President and CEO of Temple Health, and Chaudron Carter Short, Executive Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive of Temple Health, delivered speeches. The event received coverage from multiple media outlets including KYW Newsradio, the Philadelphia Tribune, 6ABC, and CBS3.
