Spring Training is a time for Major League Baseball pitchers to experiment with new pitches, adding variety to their repertoires. As the 2025 regular season approaches, several pitchers have introduced notable new pitches.

Paul Skenes of the Pirates has debuted a cutter in his first Spring Training outing. Pitching analyst Lance Brozdowski notes that it "sits at 91 mph with tight movement." Jackson Jobe of the Tigers has added a curveball to his arsenal, described as "an absolute hammer" with significant spin and break.

Max Scherzer of the Blue Jays is experimenting with a sinker, which averages about 90 mph and offers more drop and arm-side run than his four-seam fastball. Robbie Ray of the Giants has adopted a changeup grip from Tarik Skubal, while Clay Holmes of the Mets has incorporated a "kick-change" into his pitch mix.

Bryce Miller of the Mariners is refining his cutter, making it harder and with more spin than last season. Dylan Cease of the Padres has transitioned from a sub-70 mph changeup to one clocking at 83 mph. Yusei Kikuchi of the Angels has added a sweeper to complement his fastball-slider combination.

Andrés Muñoz of the Mariners introduced a kick-change that pitching coach Pete Woodworth called "the best pitch he'd ever seen." Jared Jones of the Pirates is working on a running sinker alongside his rising four-seamer.

Kodai Senga of the Mets is trying out a sinker that would add another dimension to his repertoire. Jack Leiter of the Rangers is testing both a sinker and kick-change. Jesús Luzardo of the Phillies and Max Meyer of the Marlins are incorporating sweepers into their pitching strategies.

Joe Boyle, recently traded to the Rays, has added an intriguing sinker akin to those thrown by fireballers like Paul Skenes and Jhoan Duran.

These developments could significantly impact team dynamics as players refine their skills before entering competitive play in 2025.
