The University of Pennsylvania baseball team faced a tough loss against Troy on Saturday afternoon, as two errors in the ninth inning led to a 10-9 defeat at Riddle-Pace Field. The game marked Penn's fifth consecutive loss this season, while Troy improved their record to 10-1.
In the game, Jarrett Pokrovsky and Gavin Collins stood out with multi-hit performances. Collins opened the scoring with a home run and added a triple later, falling just short of hitting for the cycle. Davis Baker, Ryan Taylor, and Collins each contributed two RBIs.
Thomas Shurtleff took his first loss of the year despite not allowing an earned run. Sebastian Haggard continued his strong form by striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings.
Penn initially took the lead with Collins' home run but fell behind as Troy scored three runs early on. Taylor's homer tied it up again before Penn regained the lead through a wild pitch. However, Troy responded with four runs to take a 7-4 advantage.
The Quakers rallied in the sixth inning with five runs to go ahead 9-7. Yet, Brooks Bryan's two-run homer for Troy in the eighth inning tied the game once more.
In the bottom of the ninth, fielding errors allowed Troy to secure victory with a sacrifice bunt that resulted in a throwing error.
Penn will aim to avoid a series sweep in their next game against Troy on Sunday afternoon.
