Philadelphia Union has announced the signing of Uruguayan forward Bruno Damiani from Nacional, a club in Uruguay's Primera División. The acquisition marks a record transfer fee for the Union. Damiani has signed a four-year guaranteed contract until 2028, with an option for 2029. He will join the Union's active roster upon receiving his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa, occupying an international roster spot.
"Bruno is exactly the type of player that we have been looking to add to our forward unit," stated Ernst Tanner, Sporting Director of Philadelphia Union. "He is a tall and physical forward with a proven ability to dominate and be a threat in the final third [of the field]. Along with his size and strength, he is a clinical finisher and relentless in attack. We look forward to him integrating quickly and seeing his impact on the field."
The 22-year-old forward arrives from Nacional where he played during 2023, participating in 22 matches with two goals and three assists. Damiani made his debut on June 17, 2023, scoring in a 4-0 victory over Club Deportivo Maldonado. In 2024, he was loaned to Boston River in Uruguay's Primera División, where he scored 12 goals and provided five assists over 38 matches, playing a total of 3,056 minutes. He excelled during the Clausura tournament by scoring nine goals in 14 matches, becoming the second-highest scorer in the league. After scoring eight goals in the first nine matches of the Clausura, he earned consecutive Player of the Month awards for August/September and October of 2024.
Damiani continued his success into 2025 by helping Nacional secure the Uruguayan Super Cup on January 26 against league champions Peñarol. Nacional had qualified by winning the Torneo Intermedio in 2024, with Damiani playing a crucial role to secure their first Super Cup title since 2021.
On an international level, Damiani was called up for the first time to Uruguay's national team in May of 2024 and debuted in a friendly match against Costa Rica.
