Philadelphia Union has announced the signing of Frankie Westfield as their 27th Homegrown player. The Philadelphia-born defender, who progressed through the club's academy ranks, expressed his excitement at achieving this milestone. "It feels pretty nice – long awaited, but I’m very happy to say that I’m a Homegrown," Westfield said.

Westfield's journey began in the Philadelphia Union pre-academy, fueled by his passion for the club since its inception. He described his achievement as a dream come true. "Ever since the Union started, actually, I've been watching them. Now, finally putting the jersey on... it's great," he remarked.

His energetic nature was evident from childhood when his mother encouraged him to play soccer. Westfield fondly recalled how playing helped channel his energy: “I’m a pretty energetic guy – I like to move around a lot... because it got me tired,” he laughed.

Initially part of the Philadelphia Soccer Club near his home, Westfield was scouted by the Union Academy during a tournament. His potential was further realized after an impressive MLS Next Pro season in 2023 and early 2024, leading to contract talks with Philadelphia Union II.

“There was definitely a lot going on during that time... I was a week away from going to Penn State,” Westfield explained about the pivotal moment when he received news of his professional opportunity.

The 2024 season saw Westfield shine with seven goals and six assists. A standout moment came during the Eastern Conference Final against Columbus Crew 2 when teammates celebrated with him after scoring a crucial goal.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season opener against Orlando City SC on February 22nd, Westfield is eager to contribute further and has already formed strong bonds with veteran players like Quinn Sullivan and Jakob Glesnes.

Despite not yet debuting for Major League Soccer matches, Westfield remains optimistic and grateful for family support at games: “They mean everything – all my heart and soul... I step on that field for them."

With high expectations for himself and commitment towards fans at Subaru Park, Westfield promises dedication: "I'm going to bring hard work... looking forward to seeing you guys at Subaru Park."
