Philadelphia Union has announced the signing of defender Frankie Westfield to a homegrown player contract. Westfield, who has been part of Philadelphia Union II and the U.S. Youth National Team, will be with the team until 2028, with an option for 2029. Previously serving as co-captain of Union II, he becomes the 27th player from the Union Academy.

"Frankie is a young talented and versatile defender," said Ernst Tanner, Sporting Director of Philadelphia Union. "His ability to use both feet effectively allows him to impact the game on both sides of the field, and his role as vice-captain of Union II last season gives us confidence in his maturity and leadership potential on and off the field. We are excited to see the contribution he will bring to the first team."

Westfield joined Union Academy in 2021 and became the seventh player from Union II to sign a professional contract with MLS NEXT Pro. In 2024, as vice-captain, he started all 26 matches and led the team in minutes played with 2,313. He scored six goals and provided six assists, setting a new record for most goals by a defender in Union II history. His performances earned him a spot in the MLS NEXT Pro Best XI for 2024 and helped Union II reach their first MLS NEXT Pro Cup during a record-breaking season.

Internationally, Westfield received his first call-up to the U.S. Under-20 Men's Youth National Team for a training camp in Chile on October 7, 2024. He made two appearances against Chile's Under-20 team during this period.

Transaction: Philadelphia Union signed defender Frankie Westfield to a homegrown contract through 2028 with an option for 2029.
