Philadelphia Union has confirmed the acquisition of midfielder Jovan Lukic from FK Spartak Subotica. The Serbian player joins on a permanent transfer until 2026, with club options extending to 2027 and 2028. Lukic will be added to the team's active roster after receiving his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa, occupying an international roster slot.
"Jovan is a dynamic, ball-winning midfielder who fits well into our playing style," stated Ernst Tanner, Philadelphia Union's Sporting Director. "His experience across European leagues has not only showcased his versatility but also his ability to adapt to different styles of play, and we are confident his skill set will bolster our midfield."
Lukic, aged 23, could become the second Serbian native to play for Philadelphia Union following Veljko Paunovic's appearance in 2011. Previously, Lukic signed a four-year contract with FK Spartak Subotica in September 2023 and scored two goals over 39 appearances in two seasons. Before that, he had a stint with LASK in Austria’s Bundesliga and was loaned to SC Uniao Torreense in Portugal.
Lukic began his professional career at FK Cukaricki in Serbia's Super League where he played from 2019-2023. During this time, he made significant contributions including three goals and three assists in 71 appearances. He also represented Serbia on various national youth teams from U18 to U21 levels.
The transaction was finalized on February 5, 2025.
