The Philadelphia Flyers faced a 3-0 defeat against the New York Islanders at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday. Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves to secure a shutout, marking consecutive games without scoring for the Flyers.

During the first period, an initial power play goal for the Flyers was removed from the scoreboard, leaving the game tied at zero by intermission. Both teams had four shots each early in the period. A fight broke out between Scott Laughton and Maxim Tsyplakov as a result of a previous high hit on Ryan Poehling.

Anthony Richard created a scoring opportunity at 10:26 but Sean Couturier couldn't capitalize. Later, Matvei Michkov's goal was disallowed due to goalie interference after Adam Pelech received a penalty for high-sticking Travis Konecny.

The Islanders gained momentum in the second period with two goals. Simon Holmstrom scored his 13th goal following assists from Scott Perunovich and J.G. Pageau at 10:02. Marc Gatcomb later scored his first NHL goal during a bad line change by the Flyers.

In the third period, Kyle Palmieri increased the lead to 3-0 with assists from Casey Cizikas and Pelech. Despite efforts by Ivan Fedotov, who stopped 25 of 28 shots, Sorokin achieved his fourth career shutout against Philadelphia.

Flyers coach John Tortorella reached his milestone of coaching his 1,600th NHL game, becoming the first American-born coach to do so.
