It has been a challenging period for the Philadelphia Flyers as they ended January with a scoring drought, being shut out in consecutive games for the first time since November 2017. Despite creating opportunities during the first period against the New Jersey Devils and throughout their game against the New York Islanders—where total shot attempts were 68-47 in favor of the Flyers—the team struggled to convert these chances into goals. The Flyers will need to address this issue as they prepare for their next match in Colorado.
During the Devils game, Tyson Foerster showcased his skills early on with an impressive run through the neutral zone. He managed to skate through a stick check while maintaining control of the puck, demonstrating remarkable hand-eye coordination that led to a scoring opportunity.
Foerster's adeptness was further highlighted later in the game when he received a pass from Noah Cates at waist height. He skillfully adjusted his grip by shortening his stick, bringing his top hand halfway down and moving his lower hand close to the heel of the blade.
The Islanders game also featured notable moments, particularly involving Cam York. As Nick Seeler headed to the bench, York ensured he did not commit a too-many-men penalty by checking Seeler's position before playing the puck.
Additionally, an effective play demonstrated how simple breakouts can be successful without requiring long passes across or up ice. The Flyers executed three short passes within five feet through the neutral zone before Drysdale joined in and directed a centering pass towards Cates.
