For over two decades, Pastor Ted Winsley has served as the chaplain for the Philadelphia Eagles, offering spiritual guidance and support to players through Bible studies and chapel services. Among the many relationships he has fostered, his connection with Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham stands out.

Winsley met Graham when he was a rookie facing challenges both on and off the field. "Of my 23 years of being a chaplain, Brandon's been there for 15," Pastor Ted stated. He recalled meeting Graham during a difficult period marked by injuries and criticism. "We talk about this often that the first five years after being a first-round pick – they used the 'b' word that he was a bust."

The mentorship extended beyond football, encompassing personal growth and family life. Graham credits Winsley's influence in helping him develop both as an athlete and as a person. "I know me, and I needed a mentor," Graham said.

Despite early setbacks due to injuries, which limited his participation in games, Pastor Ted views these challenges as beneficial in extending Graham's career. The player eventually found new motivation through faith and guidance from Winsley.

Pastor Ted noted that Graham is naturally joyful and big-hearted but faced periods where his light seemed dimmed. Through their relationship, Graham learned to view football not just as a job but as an opportunity to positively impact others.

When Graham suffered another injury—a torn triceps—he maintained his trust in God. He emphasized reliance on faith during challenging times: "We pour everything we can into this game. When I say I trust God, I trust God."

As the Eagles move into playoff season, Graham continues to lead by example, drawing from his experiences with Pastor Ted's mentorship. He aims to inspire teammates with his journey of faith and perseverance.

Graham's leadership qualities have earned him recognition; he is nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award for the second time in three years.
