As the new year begins, MLB Pipeline has once again turned its attention to identifying potential breakout prospects for the upcoming 2025 season. Last year's predictions proved accurate, with players like Josue De Paula of the Dodgers and Bryce Eldridge of the Giants making it onto the Top 100 Prospects list by the end of 2024.
For 2025, MLB Pipeline has selected one promising prospect from each of the 30 farm systems. Among these are Sean Keys, a third baseman for the Blue Jays, who has shown impressive performance in his early professional games. "Keys’ steadily improving approach already has him on the radar," notes MLB Pipeline.
In Baltimore, shortstop Emilio Sanchez is expected to make significant strides. The Orioles signed him for $1.3 million after he was ranked No. 30 on their Top 50 international prospects list. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay's Theo Gillen could emerge as a standout player despite being a first-round pick due to his left-handed swing and power tools.
The Red Sox face an interesting decision with Conrad Cason, a two-way talent drafted in 2024. "He'll make his pro debut in 2025," states MLB Pipeline. George Lombard Jr., an infielder for the Yankees and son of former major leaguer George Lombard, is also highlighted as a player with potential.
In the American League Central, Welbyn Francisca of the Guardians is poised for success following Angel Genao's breakout last year. The Royals' Asbel Gonzalez is noted for his defense and speed as a center fielder.
Among National League East teams, JR Ritchie of the Braves stands out after recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2023. Kemp Alderman of the Marlins displayed significant power during his time in Arizona Fall League despite earlier injuries.
Edward Lantigua of the Mets enjoyed a solid first season in professional baseball, while Angel Feliz of the Nationals shows promise with his size and power at just 18 years old.
Brewers' Bryce Meccage is recognized as having potential due to his fastball and slider combination despite some command issues. Yairo Padilla from Cardinals impressed as a DSL All-Star with solid batting stats.
Dodgers' Zyhir Hope made waves following a trade acquisition last year and showcased dynamic skills during Arizona Fall League play.
These prospects represent just some of those expected to break out this season across Major League Baseball's farm systems.
