The Philadelphia Eagles demonstrated resilience in their recent game against the Dallas Cowboys, emphasizing their "next man up" approach. With Jalen Hurts sidelined due to a concussion, former Pittsburgh Steeler and lifelong Eagles fan Kenny Pickett stepped in. Despite sustaining a rib injury the previous week, Pickett was ready for his first start with the Eagles.
"Coming to a team like this was awesome," Pickett expressed about his new teammates. He managed to lead the offense effectively during the first half, completing 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. However, after taking another hit to his injured ribs, he exited the game at halftime.
"I left it all out there," Pickett remarked on his performance. Lane Johnson praised both quarterbacks' toughness, stating that "Kenny coming in, he played really tough last week... Tanner (McKee) was the exact same way."
Tanner McKee replaced Pickett in the third quarter and quickly found his rhythm. On his second drive, McKee connected with A.J. Brown for his first NFL touchdown pass. "It's surreal," McKee said about achieving a childhood dream.
Despite not expecting to play, McKee prepared diligently as if he were starting every week. His preparation paid off as he threw two touchdown passes, contributing significantly to the Eagles' 41-7 victory over the Cowboys.
"It was awesome, so happy for Tanner," Pickett commented on McKee's performance. Both quarterbacks exemplified Philadelphia's next-man-up mentality and earned valuable experience from this game.
"Guys obviously know that it is a next-man-up mentality," McKee reiterated post-game.
