Four seasons into his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kenneth Gainwell continues to solidify his role as a reliable running back. In Sunday's game against Pittsburgh, Gainwell's performance stood out as he accumulated 60 scrimmage yards. His efforts in running, passing, and blocking were noteworthy.
Gainwell was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after playing at Memphis. Reflecting on his role, Gainwell stated, "When you get called, you go out and play football... I'm enjoying the opportunities that I get and just going out there and ballin' and having fun with it."
Throughout his time with the Eagles, Gainwell has maintained a consistent presence on the field. In previous seasons backing up Miles Sanders and D'Andre Swift, he contributed significantly both in rushing and receiving plays. This season, alongside Saquon Barkley’s impressive performance, Gainwell has recorded 57 carries for 265 yards and one touchdown along with 12 receptions for 96 yards.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts emphasized Gainwell's importance to the team: "We're going to need him to keep making plays." The team philosophy encourages players to excel within their roles—a path Gainwell follows diligently.
"I've had to be patient," said Gainwell. "If there is a larger role, I'm willing... Every time I'm out there, I think I'm going to make plays."
Having been part of the Eagles' Super Bowl run in 2022 provides valuable experience for this season's campaign where they hold a strong record of 12-2. "You've just got to keep playing ball," noted Gainwell about facing tough competition every week.
