Philadelphia Union has announced the re-signing of Alejandro Bedoya for the 2025 season. Bedoya will continue his leadership role on the field and in the locker room, while also maintaining his position as a Player Development and Front Office Specialist, working across various departments.
“Alejandro’s contributions as a player, leader, and front office specialist proved invaluable last season,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. “While he is still an important player on the field, his leadership and insights in his Player Development role are especially beneficial. His experience, combined with his passion and dedication to the Union, makes him an important mentor for our young players, while his business acumen is beneficial to the entire organization. We’re happy to welcome Alejandro back for another season.”
Bedoya joined Philadelphia Union as a Designated Player in 2016 from Ligue 1 side Nantes. Over his career with the club, he has scored 24 goals and registered 37 assists in 244 MLS appearances (217 starts). He is one appearance away from tying teammate Andre Blake for the most in club history. His 217 starts rank second all-time within the team. Bedoya holds third place for assists in club history (37), has taken the second-most shots (266), and is among only four players in club history to achieve both 20 goals and 20 assists.
Since Bedoya's arrival, Philadelphia Union has reached the playoffs seven times over nine years, secured their first trophy—the Supporters' Shield—in 2020, and reached the MLS Cup final in 2022. In 2024 alone, he made 30 appearances (13 starts), scoring two goals and recording four assists.
Off-field, Bedoya graduated from Boston College with a degree from Carroll School of Management and later completed Harvard Business School’s Crossover into Business Program. He has developed a real estate portfolio and invested in several startups including Padel Haus, PINCHO, ScorePlay, BioPhy, ICNCLST, Teamworks, and Tonsser. Currently serving as Co-Chairman of Athlete Venture Group at SeventySix Capital and on Live Work Philadelphia's board of directors, he was also an honorary Co-Chair of Philadelphia Soccer 2026 bid committee that helped secure Philadelphia as a host city for FIFA World Cup 2026.
The transaction officially re-signs midfielder Alejandro Bedoya through to December 16th of next year.
