Philadelphia Union has revealed its protected list for the upcoming 2024 MLS Expansion Draft. The draft is set to take place on Wednesday, December 11 at 10:30 p.m. ET, allowing San Diego FC to select five players to enhance their roster. Each club can only lose one player in this process.
The Union's protected players include Markus Anderson, Tai Baribo, Andre Blake, Jesus Bueno, Daniel Gazdag, Jakob Glesnes, Danley Jean Jacques, Olwethu Makhanya, Olivier Mbaizo, Oliver Semmle, Mikael Uhre, and Kai Wagner.
In addition to these names, certain players are automatically safeguarded due to their status as Homegrown Players on the club’s Supplemental or Reserve roster. These players are Brandan Craig, Nathan Harriel, Jack McGlynn, CJ Olney, Nick Pariano, Nelson Pierre, Jeremy Rafanello, Matt Real, Andrew Rick, Cavan Sullivan, Quinn Sullivan, and David Vazquez.
During the 2024 season's competition among 29 MLS clubs, each team can protect up to 12 players from their Senior and Supplemental Rosters. If a team has a player selected from its unprotected roster during the draft process by San Diego FC or any other expansion team in future drafts under similar rules; that team will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money.
