The Rule 5 Draft, a significant event in Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings, is set to occur on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET in Dallas. This draft provides players not on a 40-man roster the opportunity to join Opening Day rosters for the upcoming season.

Eligible players are those who turned professional at age 18 or younger in 2020 or at age 19 or older in 2021. Clubs selecting a player must pay $100,000 to his former team and keep him on their active roster throughout the next season. Players cannot be sent to the minors without clearing waivers and being offered back to their original organization for half of their draft price.

Among this year's potential selections is Jose Acuna, a right-handed pitcher from the Reds, who overcame a flexor strain to perform well in the Arizona Fall League. Cooper Bowman from the A’s has demonstrated versatility and speed, making him an attractive candidate after reaching Triple-A.

Lazaro Estrada of the Blue Jays showed promise with his strikeout rates and effective slider, while Christian Franklin of the Cubs offers athleticism and versatility across outfield positions. Yujanyer Herrera from the Rockies presents future starter potential with his three-pitch mix.

Liam Hicks, recently acquired by the Tigers from the Rangers, might serve as a backup catcher option due to his solid on-base skills. Bryan Magdaleno from the Rangers impressed with his low ERA and strikeouts across Single-A and Double-A levels.

Kala’i Rosario of the Twins could draw interest for his power potential despite being limited to corner outfield positions. Sammy Siani from the Pirates has improved through swing changes, offering speed and defensive flexibility.

A.J. Vukovich of the D-backs brings run production capabilities despite some swing-and-miss concerns, while Ryan Webb of the Guardians led in AFL strikeouts with effective secondary pitches complementing his fastball.

The list above highlights intriguing candidates who may hear their names called during this year's Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
