Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Rasmus Ristolainen have been integral parts of the Philadelphia Flyers for some time. Konecny is a two-time All-Star, and this season has seen significant improvements in their performances. Their progress was acknowledged on Wednesday when Konecny and Sanheim were named to Team Canada’s Four Nations roster, while Ristolainen was selected for Team Finland.
Konecny's inclusion had been speculated by some pundits during the summer, but Sanheim's selection came as a surprise to many. The Flyers' current performance reflects their contributions, with the team holding a 12-10-3 record through 25 games. This marks a slight decrease from last year's 13-10-2 record at the same point.
The team's previous reliance on penalty kills and transition offense seemed unsustainable last year. However, this season appears more promising with an upward trend despite a challenging start of 5-8-2 in the first 15 games.
Sanheim's role has been pivotal. His performance has surpassed expectations after almost being traded in 2023. He ranks fourth in the NHL for average minutes per game and is among the top ten defensemen for even strength points.
Konecny continues to build on his previous All-Star season and is currently on track for a potential 40-goal, 100-point season. His consistent scoring across various situations makes him an asset to Team Canada.
Ristolainen was anticipated to join Team Finland as one of its top defensemen. Now fully recovered from injuries, he contributes significantly both defensively and offensively.
Flyers fans can look forward to seeing these players compete at the tournament.
