Growing up in Perth, Australia, Alex Sugar noticed the connection between his hometown's Australian rules football team and Philadelphia's NFL team, both sharing an eagle as their mascot. His interest in the American team led to an unexpected collaboration.
Sugar, known for his murals across Australia, the United States, and Europe, was approached by Eagles Senior Designer Matthew Schwenk during his first solo exhibition outside of Australia at Philadelphia's Arch Enemy Arts. Schwenk invited Sugar to create artwork for the Eagles' Gameday Poster project.
"The process went really smooth I think," Sugar remarked about working with Schwenk. "Matt and I threw some ideas around and I'm really happy with end result."
The poster featured a scene where an eagle emerged victorious after a battle with a raven, drawing inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven." Sugar expressed confidence in the Eagles' victory over the Baltimore Ravens before the game. "Giving gameday a fresh look, showing pride in our team, and knowing they're going to crush the Ravens!" he stated.
His prediction came true as the Eagles secured a 24-19 win against the Ravens. Reflecting on this opportunity to work with his favorite team from afar, Sugar said, "Couldn't have been happier. Really appreciative for this opportunity!"
