One of ten senior punters, Albert Jang, has been named a semifinalist for the FCS Punter of the Year award. The announcement was made by the Augusta Sports Council on Wednesday afternoon.
The candidates were evaluated based on their overall statistics and contributions to their teams. Emphasis was placed on net punting average, the number of punts downed or kicked out-of-bounds inside the 20-yard line, and the percentage of punts not returned. Additionally, the winner must demonstrate team leadership, self-discipline, and positively impact their team's success.
Jang had an impressive senior season at Penn, earning first-team All-Ivy honors. He led the Ivy League with a punting average of 44.0 yards and recorded nine punts inside the 20-yard line. His nine punts of 50 yards or more tied for first in the conference, including a career-long 71-yard punt against Harvard in Week 9—the program's longest since 2015.
His efforts contributed to Penn ranking first nationally in punt return defense (0.20 yards per attempt) and finishing 13th in net punting (41.0).
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Jang excelled academically and was named Penn's Academic All-Ivy representative.
Other semifinalists include Richmond's Aaron Trusler, Northern Arizona's Ben D'Aquila, Montana State's Brendan Hall, Youngstown State's Brendon Kilpatrick, Mercer's John McConnell, Gardner-Webb's Nick Bigelow, Weber State's Oscar Doyle, Valparaiso's Sam Johnson, and Murray State's Thomas O'Hara.
A national voting body comprising Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) sports information directors, conference representatives and sports writers will select the winner from these ten semifinalists. The winner will be announced on Monday, December 16.
