The Philadelphia Phillies have made a significant contribution to the recovery efforts in Clearwater, Florida, following the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The team has donated $1 million to AMPLIFY Clearwater, an organization dedicated to supporting local businesses and residents affected by the storms.
John Middleton, managing partner of the Phillies, emphasized the team's long-standing connection with Clearwater, describing it as their "second home." He stated, "Businesses should feel they have a commitment to their communities... You build commitments and relationships, and good relationships are two-way streets."
AMPLIFY Clearwater's president and CEO Amanda Payne highlighted the importance of this donation, stating that it demonstrates the profound connection between the Phillies and Clearwater. Mayor Bruce Rector also praised the team's support during this challenging time.
Since its inception, AMPLIFY Hope has received over 50 applications for assistance from those facing structural repairs and inventory losses due to the hurricanes. The Phillies' contribution is expected to significantly enhance the support available to local businesses and residents.
Middleton shared his personal ties to Clearwater beyond business commitments, noting that he owns a home there. He expressed his desire for a meaningful contribution: "Let’s do something significant, something really meaningful."
As recovery continues in Clearwater, some beachside businesses have reopened. The community anticipates further progress by February 23 when the Phillies are scheduled for their Grapefruit League home opener against the Orioles.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Clearwater, Middleton remarked on how well recovery efforts have progressed: “Hotels are open, restaurants are open... if you stood on the beach, you wouldn’t know there was ever a problem.”
