Charles Harris, the new defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, has joined the team after being claimed off waivers. He arrived at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday, donning jersey No. 95 and starting to acclimate himself to his new environment.
Harris, a seasoned NFL player and former first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2017, understands that while defensive strategies across teams may be similar, it is often the checks and terminology that pose challenges during midseason transitions.
Despite these challenges, Harris expressed enthusiasm about joining a successful Eagles team with a 9-2 record. He is among several players expected to fill in for Brandon Graham, who was placed on Injured Reserve due to a torn triceps injury sustained during Sunday's victory against the Los Angeles Rams.
"This is a really good team, a great organization, and a top defense," Harris stated after practice. "I feel like I'm the perfect fit."
Harris brings experience from nine games played with Carolina this season, where he recorded three quarterback sacks and seven quarterback hits among other statistics. Now part of his fifth NFL team, Harris acknowledges that much of his transition will involve mental preparation and learning the Eagles' defensive playbook.
The Eagles face their next challenge against the top-ranked offense of the Baltimore Ravens. Harris emphasized his readiness to contribute: "I have to get up to speed... That's the job."
Joining an edge group including Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt on the active roster—with former Carolina teammate Tarron Jackson on the practice squad—Harris noted how welcoming his new teammates have been in helping him adjust.
"We all want the same thing," he said. "I'm here to make plays and help this team."
As he integrates into his new role with high expectations for success, Harris remains focused on contributing positively to maintain momentum for winning games.
