Eagles fans are renowned for their dedication, often traveling great distances to support their team. This was exemplified by Michael Roach and his son, Alexander, who journeyed from Sydney, Australia, to attend two Eagles games in the United States within a week.
Michael's enthusiasm for the Eagles began in 2012 when he started watching NFL games with his brother David. Despite the 16-hour time difference, Michael would rise early to catch games before work. His passion led him and his wife Jocelyne to travel to America later that year for an Eagles game against Washington.
"It was just the Philadelphia spirit, just a tough team and it's a working-class town just like where we're from," Michael said. "We're just regular people, just hard working and we kind of related to that."
In 2018, Michael returned to the U.S. with his brother for the NFC Championship game against the Vikings. "That game was probably the best experience of my life," he remarked.
When Alexander became an Eagles fan, Michael wanted him to experience being part of the fanbase firsthand. They attended the Jaguars' Kelly Green game in Week 9 and toured Lincoln Financial Field.
"It was amazing... I can't explain how happy my son was," Michael shared about their tour experience.
The day after attending the Jacksonville game, they traveled to Dallas to watch another match against the Cowboys. The duo received sideline passes at AT&T Stadium and were welcomed by fellow Eagles fans.
"I was so surprised... Everywhere we looked was green in Dallas," said Michael.
Their trip included visits to Philadelphia landmarks such as the Art Museum and sampling local cuisine like cheesesteaks. Alexander even met several players including Jordan Mailata and Brandon Graham.
Reflecting on their adventure upon returning home, Michael noted Alexander's excitement: "He had the best time; he's already asking me when we're going back."
