The Philadelphia Flyers resumed practice on Monday at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, preparing for a challenging southern road trip. The team, currently holding a 4-7-1 record, is set to face the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers in upcoming games.
Following a 3-0 home loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday, the Flyers' practice included small-area drills and work on coordinated movement up the ice. "Monday's practice...included a small-area drill as well as work on moving up the ice as connected units."
With Samuel Ersson sidelined due to a lower-body injury sustained during Saturday's game, rookie Aleksei Kolosov and Ivan Fedotov are ready to step in. Kolosov made 20 saves out of 22 shots after replacing Ersson early in the first period.
The team aims to improve puck possession and increase shot volume against opponents known for strong defensive metrics. "Moving forward, the Flyers will look to start generating more puck consistent possession and a much higher volume of shots on net." The Carolina Hurricanes are particularly noted for their high rankings in puck possession metrics under coach Rod Brind'Amour.
Special teams also received attention during practice as the power play unit seeks to regain its effectiveness after recent struggles. "Over the last four games, the power play has hit a dry spell."
