The Philadelphia Eagles have released tight end Albert Okwuegbunam, following the trade deadline on Tuesday. Okwuegbunam, a fifth-year player, had not participated in any games during the 2024 season due to being on Injured Reserve. He was designated for return at the end of the preseason with an abdomen injury, and his 21-day practice window began on October 16.
Okwuegbunam joined the Eagles after a trade with the Denver Broncos at the conclusion of the 2023 preseason. During his time with the Eagles last season, he appeared in four games and played 57 offensive snaps.
Originally drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Missouri, Okwuegbunam recorded 54 receptions for 546 yards and four touchdowns over three seasons in Denver. His performance at the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft was notable for a 4.49-second 40-yard dash, marking him as one of the fastest tight ends since 2003.
Currently, Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Jack Stoll are listed as active tight ends on Philadelphia's roster. Goedert has been absent from recent games due to a hamstring injury. E.J. Jenkins was brought up from the practice squad for Sunday's victory against Jacksonville. Additionally, veteran C.J. Uzoman remains on the practice squad alongside Jenkins.
