The Philadelphia Eagles opted to remain at their 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from the University of Toledo. This decision came after extensive research and preparation by the team's Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman and his staff.

"As a lot of offensive players came off (leading to 22), we were in a good position," said Roseman. "Based on the totality of the player, his character, his talent, we felt it was the right pick for us."

Roseman noted that it was unusual not to have much action in the draft room but ultimately felt they secured a "really good player at a position of need." The draft saw an unexpected six quarterbacks selected within the first 12 picks, allowing defensive talents like Mitchell to fall into mid-round selections.

Mitchell's performance at Toledo and his showing at the Senior Bowl caught attention, making him the Eagles' first Round 1 cornerback selection since Lito Sheppard in 2002. "We think we have an extremely talented, hard-working outside corner," Roseman stated. He praised Mitchell's mentality and dedication, highlighting his decision to stay at Toledo and improve rather than transfer.

The Eagles now boast significant depth and talent at cornerback with veterans Darius Slay and James Bradberry leading alongside young prospects Kelee Ringo, Eli Ricks, Josh Jobe, veteran Avonte Maddox, new addition Tyler Hall from free agency, and Isaiah Rodgers returning after suspension.

"It seemed like a pretty easy pick," Roseman concluded about selecting Mitchell. The Eagles did not trade any draft capital on this occasion while also announcing a three-year contract extension with wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Looking ahead to Friday's draft proceedings with picks 50 and 53 upcoming, Roseman emphasized staying true to their draft board as they continue strengthening their roster during this offseason.
