The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Lincoln Financial Field has achieved the prestigious LEED Platinum certification, recognizing its commitment to sustainability. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded this certification as part of its widely recognized green building rating system, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This achievement highlights the stadium's dedication to sustainable practices in design, construction, and operation.

Lincoln Financial Field is now one of only two previously constructed NFL stadiums to reach the Platinum level—the highest tier of LEED certifications—and stands out as the only one over a decade old. Since its opening in 2003, the stadium has progressively advanced through LEED certifications: from Silver in 2013 to Gold in 2018, culminating in Platinum status in 2024.

"LEED is a transformative tool that ensures a building is designed and operated to achieve high performance, improve human health, and protect the environment," stated Peter Templeton, President and CEO of USGBC. "By prioritizing sustainability, the Philadelphia Eagles are leading the way in their industry."

The certification was granted due to various sustainable strategies implemented at Lincoln Financial Field. These include advancements in site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. The Eagles' efforts also encompass innovative initiatives such as being the first professional sports team in North America with a hydrogen refueling station for passenger vehicles and implementing reverse vending machines for recycling beverage containers.

"Earning LEED Platinum from the U.S. Green Building Council validates the hard work and dedication we put forth into being an environmentally responsible organization," commented Jason Miller, Senior Vice President of Operations for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The stadium's notable achievements include generating clean energy through 10,456 solar panels producing approximately four megawatts annually and reducing plastic waste by installing water filtration fountains. Additionally, they have replaced lighting with high-powered LED technology resulting in a 50% wattage reduction.

"This certification speaks to the collaboration that exists at all levels of the organization where sustainability is prioritized as a key business strategy," said Norman Vossschulte, Vice President of Fan Experience and Sustainability for the Eagles.

More than 197,000 commercial projects globally participate in LEED certification programs across all states and numerous countries.
