Once again, a tryout player has secured a spot on the active roster. On Friday, following the conclusion of the mandatory minicamp, the Eagles signed defensive back Parry Nickerson. Earlier this offseason, cornerback Shon Stephens was added to the roster after a rookie minicamp tryout.
Nickerson, aged 29, initially entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the Jets in 2018 from Tulane. Standing at 5-10 and weighing 179 pounds, he has played in 30 games (three starts) for several teams: the Jets, Jaguars (2019), Packers (2020), Vikings (2021), and Dolphins (2023). Last season, Nickerson participated in five games for Miami under Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio, who is now with the Eagles.
Hailing from Algiers, Louisiana, Nickerson spent five years at Tulane where he started 46 games. He recorded 188 tackles, 16 interceptions—ranking second in school history—31 passes defensed—third in school history—and scored two touchdowns. In his senior year, Sports Illustrated named him a second-team All-American.
With Nickerson's addition, the Eagles have a total of 20 players in the secondary on their 90-man roster as they enter Training Camp.
