Saquon Barkley, now donning the Eagles' No. 26 jersey, participated in the team's first Organized Team Activities (OTAs) open to the media on Wednesday. The running back took handoffs and caught passes from quarterback Jalen Hurts, hinting at his potential impact on the Eagles' offense this season.
Reflecting on his new teammates, Barkley remarked, "Biggest thing that struck me is my first 7-on-7 huddle you see A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Jalen Hurts. It's not a bad group to be out there with." He added that he feels he can contribute to an already talented roster while emphasizing the importance of focusing on daily improvement.
Barkley expressed enthusiasm about his fresh start with the team: "I feel like a rookie again," he said. His presence has energized the locker room as players work to understand new systems introduced by Head Coach Nick Sirianni and coordinators Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio.
Veteran players like Barkley are using post-practice time to bond with teammates through activities such as dining or golfing together. This camaraderie is forming gradually but steadily.
"I'm excited to be here with this team," Barkley shared. "I feel like we can do something special."
The Eagles will continue their OTAs next week before a mandatory minicamp from June 4-6. During this period, both coaches and players aim to build a cohesive offense as they familiarize themselves with each other’s styles and strategies.
"Take it day by day," Barkley advised. "Put the work in and get ready for the season and that's how it works."
