The Eagles Autism Challenge is set to take place this Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, marking its seventh annual occurrence. This event combines a bike ride and a 5K run/walk to raise awareness and funds for the autism community, featuring participation from Eagles players, coaches, and alumni. All funds raised by participants are allocated entirely to research and care programs.
To date, the Eagles Autism Challenge has successfully raised over $22 million. This year, with 5,000 participants already registered, expectations are high for setting a new record in fundraising efforts.
Participants can choose from several events: the Wawa Classic 30-mile bike ride, Wawa Shorti and Junior 10-mile rides, Freedompay 5K run/walk, or a sensory walk designed for neurodiverse individuals. A registration fee waiver is available using the promo code "MAY24," and fundraising minimums are not due until the end of May. A matching gift drive currently offers an opportunity to boost early contributions.
Eagles player Cam Jurgens shared his experiences with previous challenges: "So the last couple of years, me and Grant Calcaterra bike. We're always in the middle of the pack up until we get to the Rocky Steps and then we have to run up and down the Rocky Steps listening to the theme song," he said. "We finished last both years and we're probably going to finish last this year. That's my favorite memory. That's what it's about. It's not a race."
The event will also include a Friday Night Kick-Off Party for donors at Lincoln Financial Field's Hyundai Club from 5-8 PM before Saturday’s activities commence. Participants can celebrate their achievements at the Finish Line Celebration on Event Day, co-presented by West with complimentary food and drink available.
