The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Ainias Smith, a wide receiver from Texas A&M, to a four-year rookie contract. Smith was chosen with the 152nd overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Smith holds a unique record in SEC history as the only receiver to surpass 2,000 yards while also gaining at least 250 yards on rush attempts, punt returns, and kickoff returns. Head Coach Nick Sirianni praised Smith's versatility: "His ability to run after the catch. His ability to get in and out of breaks. I think he is extremely tough," said Sirianni. "I love that about him. That's really what sticks out. Catches the ball really well."
Last season, Pro Football Focus reported that Smith caught 94.7 percent of his catchable targets, ranking him among the top receivers drafted over the past decade.
Smith hails from Missouri City, Texas and scored 25 touchdowns during his college career at Texas A&M—19 receiving, four rushing, and two from punt returns.
In terms of special teams contributions, Smith played 351 snaps on Texas A&M's core units: kickoff, kickoff return, punt return, and punt coverage.
Football talent runs in Smith's family; his father Maurice Sr., played as a defensive back and wide receiver in both the CFL and Arena League. His brother Maurice II spent three seasons as a defensive back in the NFL with Miami and Washington.
