The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Johnny Wilson, a wide receiver from Florida State, with the 185th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Standing at 6'6 3/8" and weighing 231 pounds, Wilson's physical attributes have been a focal point throughout his football career.
Wilson's high school years at Calabasas High School in California were marked by impressive statistics: 187 catches for 3,032 yards and 43 touchdowns. As a four-star recruit, he initially chose Arizona State, where he played under head coach Herm Edwards. However, his time there was limited to eight games over two seasons, yielding only modest stats of 18 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown.
In 2022, Wilson transferred to Florida State University and quickly became a key player. He led the Seminoles with 43 receptions for 897 yards and five touchdowns in his first season, earning second-team All-ACC honors. Despite missing three midseason games due to injuries last year, he still managed to secure third-team All-ACC recognition with 41 catches for 617 yards and two touchdowns.
Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni expressed enthusiasm about Wilson's capabilities: "I value the play strength...the strong guys can come in all shapes and sizes. So, we really value that in the wide receiver position."
Alan Wolking, Director of Player Personnel for the Eagles, highlighted Wilson's unique physicality: "OBVIOUSLY, the size stands out...He moves like a real receiver...He's explosive in the takeoff...He can make some of the most spectacular catches."
Wilson's scouting report notes his exceptional catch radius and ability to navigate through traffic on the field. His size is noted as an anomaly among wide receivers drafted in recent years.
Overall statistics from his college career include participation in 31 games with 26 starts, amassing 102 receptions for 1,757 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
