Jordan Mailata was on his honeymoon in Italy when he received a text from his agent about a contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. "I just let my agent handle it and I handled the honeymoon," Mailata stated during a press conference.

The trip to Italy marked the first time Mailata and his wife, Niki, could reflect on their journey since Mailata entered the NFL. Originally from Bankstown, New South Wales, Australia, Mailata grew up playing rugby before transitioning to American football through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program at IMG Academy in Florida.

Seven years after being drafted 233rd overall in 2018, Mailata signed a three-year extension with the Eagles. "It is an honor to be able to play at one club," he said. "I've always wanted to be a player that has played for one team."

Mailata expressed gratitude towards his mentors and teammates. He acknowledged his father's support in letting him play rugby and credited lessons from his mother for shaping him into who he is today. His siblings also played a role in motivating him during challenging times early in his career.

"I recognize the opportunity that I have every day when I step foot in this building," said Mailata. He thanked his wife for her support since they met at Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market in 2018.

Run Game Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Jeff Stoutland was highlighted as a significant influence on Mailata's football career. Stoutland evaluated Mailata during his time at IMG Academy, opting to cancel personal plans to do so.

Mailata also expressed appreciation for Head Coach Nick Sirianni and former coaches Doug Pederson, Roy Istvan, and Eugene Chung for their roles in his development. He acknowledged former teammates like Brandon Brooks, Jason Kelce, Jason Peters, as well as current players Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson.

Mailata aims to become a leader within the team and contribute to its legacy of strong offensive linemen. "Any opportunity I can get to lead from within, I will always embrace," he concluded.
