Philadelphia Union II defender Frankie Westfield has been selected for the U.S. Under-20 Men's Youth National Team's training camp in Chile. The team will be in Santiago from October 7 to 15, participating in friendly matches against the host nation on October 12 and 15 at Complejo Deportivo Quilin, Chile’s national training center.
Marko Mitrović, who recently led the U.S. Olympic Men’s Soccer Team to the quarterfinals at the Paris Olympics, will serve as head coach for the Under-20 team during this camp.
Westfield, who serves as vice captain for Union II, has had a standout season. He signed his first professional contract on July 5 and contributed significantly to Union II's success this year with career highs of six goals and six assists. His efforts helped secure the team's best finish in club history and a No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
In addition to Westfield, several other players have received national team call-ups in October. His teammate Neil Pierre and Union homegrowns Andrew Rick and David Vazquez have been called up for the U.S. Under-19 Men's Youth National Team's training camp in Valencia, Spain.
