Philadelphia Union II clinch playoff spot with win over New York City FC II

Philadelphia Union II secured a narrow 4-3 victory over New York City FC II at Subaru Park on Monday evening. This win ensures Union II's spot in the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, making them the third team to reach the postseason in all three years of MLS NEXT Pro history.

The match began with an early goal from forward Markus Anderson in the 11th minute. However, New York City FC II responded strongly with goals from Taylor Calheira, Jonathan Jimenez, and Jonathan Shore within minutes, establishing a 3-1 lead. Just before halftime, Union II's Nick Pariano converted a penalty kick, narrowing the deficit to 3-2.

In the second half, Eddy Davis equalized for Union II in the 52nd minute. The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when defender Frankie Westfield scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Homegrown midfielder Cavan Sullivan.

Philadelphia Union II will return to Subaru Park to face Atlanta United 2 on Sunday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The match will be available on Apple TV.
