In each of the last two seasons, Flyers center Morgan Frost has either led the team in scoring or ranked second during stretches of 30-plus games. Now 25 years old and an arbitration-eligible restricted free agent next summer, Frost must aim for consistency throughout a full season.

In the 2022-23 season, Frost played in 81 of 82 games. However, he spent a period from late October to November playing limited minutes. After being moved up in the lineup, Frost led the Flyers in scoring over the final 56 games. He finished with a career-high 19 goals, 27 assists, and 46 points. A lengthy injury absence for leading scorer Travis Konecny influenced this outcome; Konecny remained the team's points-per-game leader and top full-season point-getter.

Last season, Frost was scratched from the lineup ten times between October 17 and January 4. However, after a one-on-one discussion with head coach John Tortorella on January 5, Frost started every game for the rest of the season. He spent most of the second half on the top power play unit and among the top six at five-on-five. Over a 32-game stretch from January 6 to March 16, Frost posted a team-best 27 points (7 goals, 20 assists) while playing some of his best two-way hockey.

Unfortunately, Frost's offense declined towards the end of the season as he tallied just three points in its last twelve games. Despite this slump, his 30 points over the final 44 games trailed only Konecny (33 points) and Tippett (31 points). In that span, Frost led the club in assists with twenty-two.

Frost chose to focus on positive aspects rather than negatives regarding his performance last season.

"I don't think one game changes that," he said on Exit Day. "We all have to take accountability. There are things I know that I still need to work on, and our team needs to do better. But I love being here. I love the group that we have. I'm excited for next season."

In terms of goal-scoring for last season, Frost's total dropped from nineteen to thirteen goals. Known more as a playmaker than a goal scorer, he vowed to shoot more frequently and improve his shot quality. Tactically, Tortorella has stressed multiple times that he wants to see Frost use his legs to attack through the middle more consistently rather than operating from the perimeter.

Frost has made better use of his natural skating abilities as he's gained experience. According to NHL Edge tracking data, his top skating speed burst measured in the ninety-fourth percentile leaguewide at a peak speed of 23.39 miles per hour; teammate Tippett had recorded the fastest speed burst at 24.21 MPH last season.

"I think I have a better understanding of how I have to play to be successful in the NHL," said Frost. "You have much less time with the puck and it's quicker decisions (to make a play). I still look pass first but I think there's ways I can score a little more too."

Overall last season saw him achieve career-best figures with twenty-eight assists despite playing nine fewer games compared to previous years.

The Flyers struggled significantly with their power play success rate last year—ranking lowest in franchise history at just twelve-point-two percent—and placed thirty-second leaguewide overall.

"It's tough to pinpoint [where things went wrong]," said Frost about their power play struggles."A lot of fans were frustrated; we were just as frustrated ourselves trying different things out there...I played quite extensively so own my part being accountable...That's something we all need improvement including myself."
