The Eagles began the process of reaching the league-mandated 53-player roster limit by releasing four veterans: quarterback Will Grier, defensive back Parry Nickerson, outside linebacker Julian Okwara, and offensive lineman Max Scharping. All teams must meet the 53-player limit by 4 PM on Tuesday.
Grier served as the fourth quarterback during Training Camp and the preseason. The former third-round pick previously played for Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore in Dallas and Los Angeles.
Nickerson is a veteran defensive back with experience in the slot. He played for Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio in Miami last season.
A former third-round pick of the Lions, Okwara lined up as an edge rusher in Fangio's defense during Training Camp and the preseason. Okwara played in 38 games, including four starts, during his four years in Detroit.
Scharping was added to the roster in June. The former second-round pick of the Texans started in 33 games for Houston before spending the past two seasons with the Bengals. He started at left tackle in the preseason finale against the Vikings.
