The Eagles added depth to their wide receiver corps on Thursday, acquiring former first-round draft pick Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders. The trade includes a 2025 fifth-round draft pick, with Washington receiving a third- and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dotson, the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is known for his quickness and explosiveness, often playing in the slot for the Commanders. In his rookie season, he caught 35 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns over 12 games. He followed up in 2023 with 49 receptions for 518 yards and four scores.
The Eagles view Dotson as a suitable addition to an offense that already features wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, and running back Saquon Barkley as primary pass-receiving targets for quarterback Jalen Hurts. Dotson recorded a time of 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Last season, Dotson had one of his best performances in a game against Philadelphia, catching eight passes for 108 yards and scoring a touchdown during a wild 38-31 Eagles win over Washington at FedEx Field. His rookie season was affected by a hamstring injury but included being named Pepsi NFC Rookie of the Week twice.
Dotson played college football at Penn State where he excelled with 183 catches for 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns over 42 games. He made an immediate impact with five touchdown catches in his first three games and set a school record with 242 receiving yards in a November game against Maryland.
In addition to his receiving skills, Dotson was effective as a returner, setting Penn State's single-season record with an average of 24.6 yards per punt return. He earned All-American honors during his final season with the Nittany Lions.
