PHILADELPHIA – United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Wanderis De La Cruz, 24, of Worcester, Massachusetts, has been charged by indictment with one count of attempting to provide contraband in prison.

The charge stems from De La Cruz’s alleged attempt to smuggle 18 sublingual 8mg films of Suboxone to an inmate at the Federal Detention Center Philadelphia in July 2024.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of five years’ imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Meghan E. Claiborne.

An indictment, information, or criminal complaint is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
